Minor Surgery

The Limes medical centre has provided a safe and well-established minor surgery service for quite some time. With the completion of the extension we now have an up to date minor surgery suite where Dr Sloan and Dr O’Connor supported by the nursing team perform a range of minor surgical procedures.

What is Minor Surgery?

Minor Surgery refers to small operations that are safe, minimally invasive procedures that involve the removal of superficial growths on or just within the skin. They are done following the injection of a local anaesthetic that numbs the area so the patient doesn’t feel pain, but you are not put to sleep.

What types of procedure are offered?

  • Incisions and excisions of cysts to prevent recurrent infection or inflammation; Epidermoid ( skin) cysts that are symptomatic and/or have been inflamed on more than one occasion.
  • Excisions of skin growths where histology ( microscopic analysis) is required -excluding suspected skin cancers (These would be referred to dermatology for review)
These might include, papilloma (Skin tags) , dermatofibroma ( hard scar like growths within the skin) or seborrheic keratosis (age related wart like growths).
  • Removal of foreign bodies only where local anaesthetic and incision is required as part of procedure
  • Surgical drainage of abscesses and haematomas where this is deemed best treatment
