How to Access Appointments at Our Surgery

We offer two main types of appointment through our On the Day Service and Pre-bookable Appointments.

On the Day Service

We release a large number of On the Day Service slots each morning at 8am. These slots are available for both urgent and non-urgent issues, with the first 60-90 slots typically allocated for all types of problems. If these slots are filled, the service becomes urgent-only. An “urgent” issue is defined as a medical concern that cannot wait until 8am the next day (or until 8am Monday when contacting us on a Friday). Patients in need of care will usually be contacted by phone in the order of their request, though clinical emergencies will be prioritised. If a telephone consultation is not sufficient, patients will be invited to attend the surgery for a face-to-face examination at a mutually convenient time. The On the Day Lead GP reviews all patients booked into the service to ensure they are seen by the appropriate clinician and will directly invite patients in need of an examination.

Our On the Day team consists of two GPs and two to four Primary Care Paramedics and Physician Assistants. They are based in an extension to the main building, with their own waiting area and reception. Each paramedic and physician assistant is supervised by a named GP, who will conduct a formal debrief and provide a clinical review when needed. Although we experience a high volume of calls at 8am, our phone system includes a call-back facility. This ensures that you don’t lose your place in the queue and will be contacted as soon as you reach the top.

Pre-bookable Appointments

Our clinicians who are not working in the On the Day service have Pre-bookable Appointments. Due to high demand, particularly for appointments with GP Partners, these slots can fill up quickly. However, appointments with our GP Registrars are often more readily available. Patients can choose whether they prefer a face-to-face or telephone consultation, as both options are scheduled in the same appointment slots.

We also offer pre-bookable appointments with our Nursing Team and First Contact Physiotherapists. Our First Contact Physiotherapists are highly experienced professionals who can diagnose, treat, and refer for all musculoskeletal conditions. Currently, only one physiotherapist is able to perform joint injections. Physiotherapy appointments can be booked directly by patients, without the need for a GP referral. Appointments for annual checks, such as blood pressure monitoring, diabetic reviews, and blood tests, are typically arranged via mobile text invitations. Patients can book these appointments at their convenience through a link provided in the text message. For those without a mobile phone, we send a letter inviting them to contact the surgery and arrange an appointment or alternatively our team may call to invite you to attend.

Arranging Appointments Online

For non-urgent concerns, patients can request an appointment online by clicking here or by opening our main page on our website and selecting the box titled ‘Contact us Online’. Our reception team will review your request and get back to you within 48 hours with the most appropriate option available for your care. Please note that this online service is not for urgent issues.
